Chelsea remain under investigation for potential Financial Fair Play (FFP) breaches, Premier League chief Richard Masters has confirmed.

Following confirmation earlier this week that Everton and Nottingham Forest were charged with breaching Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules, Masters, the league’s CEO, was questioned by the Culture, Media and Sport Committee at a select committee meeting on Tuesday morning.

The club’s new owners, Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, reported potential financial issues after they took over from previous owner Roman Abramovich, who was forced to sell the club in May 2022.

Chelsea complied with the recent cycle of the Profitability and Sustainability Rules, however, Masters confirmed an investigation remains ongoing and an outcome is yet to be determined.

“On Chelsea, as you know, the new owners came forward with information to The FA, UEFA and Premier League about previous ownership and we’re still investigating that. We don’t announce the outcome of that until we have completed those investigations.”

Meanwhile, Man City, who had 115 charges brought upon them in February 2023, have had a date set for proceedings to begin after being charged for allegedly breaking the rules between 2009 and 2018.

“The volume and character of the charges laid before Man City, which I cannot talk about at all, are being heard in a completely different environment,” Masters added.

“There is a date set for that proceeding. Unfortunately, I can’t tell you when that is but that is progressing. I can’t give any details on Man City beyond saying a date has been set, I can’t tell you when that date is.”
