Nathan Ake is on the verge of a £20 million move to fellow Premier League outfit AFC Bournemouth.

The natural central defender was on loan for the first part of the season with the Cherries, which meant Chelsea called him back in January. He made a huge difference in the games he played for Chelsea, especially in the FA Cup Semi Final against Tottenham.

However with the move set to go through with £20 million attached to it, Chelsea are wanting and will put in a buy back clause which will allow them to have the opportunity to resign the Dutch international after a period of time.
So where’s the benefit?

If the defender moves on, he will only gain more and more experience by playing every week consistently. It means he will only get better, making his value increase.

Also, with the champions being linked to world class defenders, it means Ake’s chances are going to be limited, and therefore the deal makes sense for both parties.

With Chelsea going to agree a set figure in which they can purchase back for, if the defender improves, the price in which they pay could be signficantly lower to what the rest of the market is at.

If Ake doesn’t impress, then they don’t have to bring him back, therefore making the deal an attractive one.

Ake has had loan spells at Watford and AFC Bournemouth and has impressed at both, showing he can cut it in the top leagues. But what Chelsea will want to see is consistency for a whole season, and a player who will then be able to come straight into a Chelsea side who is challenging for the major trophies.
