Chelsea sit currently sporting just one English International in the squad, in the shape of new Club Captain Gary Cahill.
With the likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Nathaniel Chalobah and John Terry all disappearing from the fold this season, it appears that Antonio Conte wants to get some English lionheart’s back involved in the squad.
Owner Roman Abramovich has always been keen on having English players in the spine of his Club and recently the old guard have faded out, with Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard considered part of that spine along with Terry.
Chelsea now want to bring in one or two experienced English Internationals, and topping that list is Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Everton’s Ross Barkely, and former teammate of N’Golo Kante at Leicester, Danny Drinkwater.
With the Clubs home grown quota looking thin, as well as the squad itself, expect Chelsea to pursue at least two of these players in the remaining 29 days of this transfer window.
Barkley is definitely leaving Everton this window as confirmed by his Club, whilst Oxlade-Chamberlain is refusing to sign a new contract with Arsenal having one year left on his deal.
For me personally, Oxlade-Chamberlain would be the best buy here, his versatility winning me over. But that being said, I also rate Barkely highly and even consider Drinkwater to be a good squad competition player.
