Newcastle United have approached Chelsea in an attempt to take their young Brazilian, Kenedy, on a season-long loan, this per the Daily Mail. Rafael Benitez is interested in the player and he would be Newcastle’s sixth summer signing and the second signing from Chelsea following the addition of Christian Atsu earlier in the summer.
Although Kenedy is a player with undoubted talent and potential, he is, like most of our young players, finding a hard time trying to break into the first team. Add this to the controversial episode last month when Kenedy insulted Chinese fans on social media during our pre-season tournament, leading to him being disciplined and sent back home to train alone at Cobham, and it is easy to see why, at this moment at least, his future at CFC is not boding well.
Conte has already stated that Kenedy needs more game time in order to improve, so a loan spell under Benitez would definitely benefit both him and Chelsea. Whether the Brazilian has a future with the Blues is yet to be seen, but a season at Newcastle will offer him some much needed experience and a chance to stake a claim in Conte’s plans for next season.
