Diego Costa will be remaining as a Chelsea player, after his potential move to former club, Atletico Madrid has failed to materialise.
There has been speculation all summer, as to whether Diego Costa would stay a Chelsea player or not.
Costa was today confirmed to be a part of the 25 man squad for Chelsea’s Premier League campaign which cited rumours he was staying. Despite this, Costa is not expected to be included in Chelsea’s 25 man Champions League squad, escalating the possibility of a move to Atletico in January.
Atletico Madrid has been the firm favourites all summer, with Costa expressing he only wants to return to Atletico, and them only, but nothing has come of it.
“My destination is already made. I must return to Atletico Madrid.”
It all became public when Chelsea boss Antonio Conte sent Costa a text message, saying he wasn’t in his plans for next season and he should find a move elsewhere.
He spoke in an interview after Spain’s 2-2 draw against Columbia back in June saying Conte doesn’t want him.
“My relationship with the coach has been bad this season. It’s a shame, I’ve already forwarded the message to Chelsea people to decide.”
“You have to find a team.”
Costa had been linked with a big money move to China in January, and it seemed to unsettle him.
But with Atletico having a transfer ban until January, it made a deal very complicated as it meant Costa may not play for five months.
Anyway, he remains a Chelsea player, and what will happen to him is not yet clear.
Will he make up with Antonio Conte, or will he be sidelined until January? When he will try again to find a move away from Chelsea?
