Normally a tough place to go, and it has been this season with the home side taking points off Arsenal and Manchester United, but Chelsea started quickly and came out with a 4-0 victory at the bet365 Stadium.
Chelsea came out the blocks fast, and within two minutes they were in front. Alvaro Morata got his first of the afternoon after an inch perfect ball from fellow Spaniard Cesar Azpilicueta, and Morata took the ball in his stride and slotted it into the bottom right hand corner. They couldn’t have asked for a better start to the game.
Pedro then decided to get in on the action after capitalising on a poor judgement from Darren Fletcher which saw him pick up the ball on the edge of the box. He then curled it past Jack Butland to double the Blues’ lead.
Stoke had a chance through Diouf, with his acrobat attempt flying over the crossbar, but the Potters were piling on the pressure. Chelsea’s defence stayed compact and saw out the two goal lead into half-time.
Marcos Alonso was then booked for a foul on Joe Allen, and moments later made a clumsy foul on Diouf, but somehow avoided being shown a red. Conte reacted, and Alonso was taken off for Gary Cahill.
Courtois then look to have picked up a serious injury after landed badly from trying to clear from a corner. But the Belgium got up, and continued.
Fabregas and Hazard joined the game, and with 13 minutes to go, Alvaro Morata bagged his second of the game, punishing Stoke’s efforts to get back into the game. He went past Johnson and Fletcher before side footing it past Butland in front of the away end, to seal the three points, and keep their 100% record on the road.
But Conte’s men weren’t finished. Morata bagged his first hat-trick for Chelsea, the same week fellow forward Michy Batshuayi accomplished the same. A ball from Fabregas to Azpilicueta who chested it across the goal for the new man to tap in from the close range.
Morata nearly made it five for Chelsea with a shot which just went wide of the post.
With the Diego Costa deal agreed, you would ponder whether that would affect the squad, but it clearly didn’t and Morata could turn into be a huge fan favourite, something that he is already doing with what he has brought to the club.
Up next is Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, and after the comfortable win today, they will go into it with full confidence.
