Former Blues employee Ray Wilkins has claimed he expects Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho to ditch their pursuit of Arsenal star Mesut Ozil, to turn his attention to Willian.
Willian has been deprived of game time in recent weeks but starred in the Blues’ impressive away performance against Huddersfield on Tuesday evening.
Speaking to Sporting Bet, Wilkins gave his view on the potential Mesut Ozil move to Old Trafford: “Mesut Ozil won’t go to Old Trafford because he doesn’t have the work ethic that Mourinho looks for in his players.”
However Wilkins, now a pundit on Sky Sports, recommended Jose Mourinho to chase after one of his former players during his time at Chelsea.
“I actually see Willian as being the likely player to head to Old Trafford. Jose is an enormous admirer of Willian and he would be a special signing for United, but I pray that Chelsea don’t let him go.”
The 29-year-old proved a point to his doubters on Tuesday up in Yorkshire, and plenty of clubs will be after his signature as a result of the lack of game time.
But with Chelsea having an already deprived squad, it is unlikely that the London side will see him go.
