Chelsea have emerged as the front runners to sign Leicester City midfielder Riyad Mahrez, according to Calciomercato.
The report states that Roma are Chelsea’s other competitors, after the Italian side tabled three summer bids for the Algerian however they were all knocked back.
The 26-year-old was the centre of speculation on deadline day back in August when the Foxes midfielder disappeared, with one report claiming a deal to Chelsea was done.
However, Mahrez is still a Leicester player, now managed by Claude Puel, and has shown improvement from the season they were defending their illustrious Premier League crown. He has four goals to his name, and assisting on five occasions.
He could follow former team-mates N’Golo Kante and most recently Danny Drinkwater to the Bridge who joined on the last day of the transfer window in the summer.
With Mahrez also not being cup tied, he could be rather useful in Chelsea’s Champions League game against Barcelona.
