Thomas Lemar of Monaco is said to prefer a move to Anfield instead of opting for a move to Chelsea or Arsenal in January, reports The Independent.
Lemar, 22, was expected to join Arsenal on transfer deadline-day in a deal worth £92 million but it fell through, causing Alexis Sanchez’ move to Manchester City to collapse also. Now, it appears that Arsenal face competition from both Liverpool and Chelsea.
Various news outlets have recently linked Chelsea with Lemar, either in the form of a £90million offer or including Michy Batshuayi within the deal. Chelsea believe they hold an advantage over the rest of the competition since former Technical Director, Michael Emenalo now has the same role at Stade Louis II.
A move to Chelsea would also re-unite Lemar with former team-mate Tiemoue Bakayoko, who moved to the Bridge this past summer in a £40million deal. Armed with that, Monaco too, are willing to listen to offers following their elimination from the group stages of the Champions League.
What will certainly be a blow to the Champions is that it is reported that Lemar’s preference is a move to Liverpool. This is due to the prospect of Champions League football, something Arsenal cannot offer.
