Arsenal are reportedly edging ahead of Chelsea and Manchester United in the pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen winger, Leon Bailey, according to The Mirror.
The 20-year-old Jamaican has caught the attention of several Premier League clubs following his impressive start in German football. Bailey moved to Leverkusen from Belgian club Genk in a £12.5 million deal last January and has scored eight goals in 16 appearances this season.
Arsenal reportedly sent scouts over to Germany to watch Bailey in action and he performed. The Jamaican scored twice in a 4-4 draw away at Hannover last Sunday and scored the winner against Monchengladbach in the German Cup in midweek.
Arsenal have serious interest in the winger since it is inevitable Alexis Sanchez will be departing the North London outfit: either in January or in the summer transfer window. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also departed towards the end of August and the Gunners have yet to replace the England international. Theo Walcott’s future is uncertain also which makes Arsene Wenger keen to sign Bailey.
Chelsea were thought to be leading the race but others such as Manchester United remain interested. However, any potential party is likely to have to offer a high amount. Leverkusen have Bailey tied to a five-year contract but could be willing to sell if their valuation is met.
