Armando Broja’s recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury is ongoing and the Chelsea forward has issued an update on his rehabilitation.

The 21-year-old suffered an ACL injury during their 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa in Abu Dhabi during the mid-season friendly.

Broja was heard screaming in pain as he went down before being attended to by Chelsea medicals during a lengthy stoppage, which saw him then stretchered off the pitch.

He underwent surgery in December and Chelsea confirmed the operation was successful. It would rule him out for the remainder of the 2022/23 campaign, a blow to the Albanian’s season after cementing himself in the team.

At the time, Broja wrote: “Pleased to say I underwent a successful operation this morning,’ the post reads.

“Time to rest up before starting my road to recovery. ‘Thank you once again to everyone who has sent messages of support.”

The Chelsea forward, among many others in the medical room, has been gradually working on recovering from the injury and surgery. He has slowly built his way back up to being able to do work in the gym, albeit it likely being very light work.

After the club overcame its dismal run of results with three consecutives victories in all competitions against Leeds United, Borussia Dortmund and Leicester City, Broja offered a positive update following horror injury.

Broja took to Instagram on Monday and shared a small update while in the gym, writing: “Don’t focus on the pain, focus on the progress.”

Chelsea will be hoping to see Broja in the team during pre-season ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

Once Broja does return to the side, he will face heavy competition in attack with Christopher Nkunku set to join from RB Leipzig this summer, bolstering Graham Potter’s attack which could also see several departures.
