Chelsea will be hoping to welcome back Cesar Azpilicueta and Mason Mount to the team this weekend when they face Leicester City in the Premier League.

Graham Potter is gradually seeing his Chelsea side return to full availability after a torrid couple of months with their dismal and unfortunate injury record.

Edouard Mendy (fractured finger), Thiago Silva (knee) and Armando Broja are still sidelined. Mendy is hoping to return to training soon, while Silva is set to be out until next month and Broja won’t play any further part this season.

After back-to-back wins against Leeds United and Borussia Dortmund to end a run of six matches without victory, Saturday’s trip to the King Power offers Chelsea a chance to continue the good momentum and collect another victory.

“My job is to help the team, help the players, prepare the team as well as we could and to support them,” Potter said after their 2-0 win over Dortmund on Tuesday night. “They’ve been suffering as well. Nobody has enjoyed the run we’ve had. That’s why today was important for us. We wanted to progress, and we have, so we’re happy.”

Chelsea will welcome back Benoit Badiashile, Noni Madueke, David Datro Fofana and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to selection for the weekend’s game. The quartet were all ineligible to face Dortmund after not being included in the 25-man knockout squad.

Cesar Azpilicueta has been out ever since he suffered a head injury against Southampton. He was still undergoing the procedure of following the correct protocols before his return could be anticipated. Potter will likely give an update on his availability in his pre-match press conference on Friday.

Mason Mount missed the win over Leeds United with a minor lower abdomen problem, before being absent in midweek through suspension. He will be keen to return to the side and is expected to be in the squad if he’s passed fit.

Christian Pulisic is likely to retain his place in the squad after making the bench against Dortmund following a two-month absence due to a knee injury.

N’Golo Kante‘s return date is unknown despite the 31-year-old being involved in two full training sessions prior to the Dortmund tie. Potter has confirmed his situation is complex, having been out since August.

“It’s a complex one with him because he has had a long time out,” said Potter earlier this week.

“It’ll be a case of how we get him back up to speed to play Premier League or Champions League football. He won’t be able to go back in for 90 minutes any time soon but the fact he is with us is exciting.

Mount, Kante and Pulisic were all involved on Thursday’s training session at Cobham.
