Ben Chilwell hopes Chelsea’s win over Leeds United can spur them on to beat Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night in their ‘biggest game of the season’ so far.

Chelsea finally got back to winning ways on Saturday afternoon after Wesley Fofana’s second half header secured a 1-0 win for the Blues, relieving some of the pressure on head coach Graham Potter and his side.

They were six games without a win in all competitions and had lost their previous three matches heading into the Premier League affair at the weekend.

Chelsea also broke their dry spell without a goal, albeit coming from a defender. They will need to do it all over again on Tuesday when Dortmund visit the English capital.

Potter’s side are one nil behind after Karim Adeyemi’s decisive goal at the Signal Iduna Park last month to clinch a narrow lead heading into the second leg at Stamford Bridge.

Dortmund head to London in fine form. They have won their last 11 games and sit second in the Bundesliga.

Many Chelsea players are hoping the Leeds win may prove to have been a turning point for the squad, who have struggled as of late, and boost their confidence for the Champions League clash.

Chilwell has urged his teammates to build on the momentum picked up from Saturday’s league win to help them clinch victory in their biggest game of the season under the lights in west London.

He told Sky Sports after their win versus Leeds: “A must win. That was the mindset going into the game, a must-win game.

“Obviously we got the three points, we know there’s still stuff to work thing. But the main thing was the three points and good momentum going into the biggest game of the season on Tuesday.”

Denis Zakaria is also hoping Chelsea can kick on against Dortmund to back up their win over Leeds. He added: “We are happy with the win and it will help us ahead of Dortmund – it was important for the confidence of our players.

“I cannot say what will happen in the future but it will for sure give us confidence. We will work better after a win and we can build after this game.”
