Benoit Badiashile has spoken for the first time after Chelsea confirmed he would miss the final two games of the season with a hamstring injury.

The 22-year-old sustained an injury in the build-up to their Premier League clash against Manchester City last week in training, which caretaker boss Frank Lampard confirmed was being assessed.

It was then revealed Badiashile could be out for up to four months, missing the beginning of the 2023/24 campaign. However, in good news, the Frenchman hasn’t had to undergo an operation.

On Tuesday, Chelsea confirmed the Badiashile injury blow, which will now see him begin his rehabilitation with the club’s medical team.

“Benoit Badiashile has sustained a hamstring injury which will rule the defender out for an extended period.

“The 22-year-old underwent assessment with specialists earlier this week and Benoit will now begin a rehabilitation programme with the club’s medical department.”

It hands incoming head coach Mauricio Pochettino with a defensive dilemma ahead of the new campaign, with Levi Colwill returning from his Brighton & Hove Albion loan spell and potentially set for a huge opportunity in the side next term.

Badiashile broke his silence after the confirmation, writing on social media: “Time to recover and come back stronger next season. Thank you all for your messages.”

Badiashile has made 11 appearances for Chelsea since joining from AS Monaco in January. He scored his first, and only, goal in the 3-1 win over AFC Bournemouth earlier this month.

Chelsea are currently 12th in the Premier League and face Manchester United and Newcastle United this week to conclude their disappointing 2022/23 campaign.
