Chelsea are edging closer to appointing Christopher Vivell to a role as technical director after he received clearance to work in England, according to reports.

Vivell, who left RB Leipzig in October, was targeted by Chelsea and quickly agreed terms after his deal in Germany was terminated.

RB Leipzig chief executive Oliver Mintzlaff said: “Chris has certainly done a great job over the last two years, but in the end, things didn’t fit anymore. If the trust is no longer there in football, co-operation no longer makes sense. That is why we released him. We made this decision with full conviction.”

After some delay in his move to Chelsea, Vivell is now getting closer to joining Chelsea.

As reported by Matt Law of The Telegraph, Vivell has now received clearance to work in England, which moves Chelsea closer to being able to officially announce his arrival at Stamford Bridge.

Vivell will become one of the final pieces of the puzzle after co-owner Todd Boehly’s recruitment rebuild.

It has seen Paul Winstanley arrive from Brighton & Hove Albion as director of global talent and transfers, with Joe Shields and Lawrence Stewart also being confirmed to have joined the club.

Chelsea are yet to appoint someone into the sporting director role, which Boehly is currently filling in on an interim basis.

The recruitment team have been meeting in Dubai to hold talks, with Boehly and fellow co-owner Behdad Eghbali travelling over to Abu Dhabi last Sunday for the friendly against Aston Villa.
