Benoit Badiashile has joined Chelsea on seven-and-a-half year contract from AS Monaco for a fee of around £33 million.

The 21-year-old has penned a long-term contract at Stamford Bridge and becomes the second signing of the January transfer window following the arrival of David Datro Fofana.

Chelsea have been targeting adding to their defence this month along with the attack and have now got their man in Badiashile, who will play on the left-hand side of the defence providing competition for Kalidou Koulibaly.

Graham Potter was coy on Badiashile after their 1-1 draw to Nottingham Forest, but after undergoing his medical from Monday and finalising the deal he is now officially a Chelsea player for around £33 million.

Upon his arrival, Badiashile told the official Chelsea website: “I’m very happy to be here at Chelsea. I’m so excited to start playing for this club. I can’t wait to see the fans and start playing in the best league in the world.”

Co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali added: “We’re delighted to welcome Benoit to Chelsea.

“He’s an excellent young player who has quickly established a strong reputation for himself and has a huge amount of experience for his young age.

“We are sure he will form an important part of our team in the years ahead.”

Badiashile is set to be presented in front of the Chelsea crowd at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night when they face Manchester City in the Premier League.
