The Chelsea squad which has travelled to Spain to face Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final tie has been confirmed.

After training at their Cobham base on Tuesday morning, Frank Lampard‘s side have made the trip to Madrid as they continue their European adventure looking to bring back a positive result for the second leg at Stamford Bridge later this month.

Chelsea set up a last-eight tie against Los Blancos having overturned a first leg deficit against Borussia Dortmund to clinch a 2-1 aggregate victory last month to progress into the quarters, the stage which they were knocked out last season.

Lampard, who has been appointed as caretaker manager until the end of the season, didn’t get his perfect return at the weekend. Chelsea fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat to Wolves in the Premier League, in dismal fashion too, and will be needing a much-improved performance at the Santiago Bernabeu if his side are to have any chance of beating the current Champions League holders.

The 44-year-old was handed welcome boosts ahead of the tie: Edouard Mendy, Thiago Silva, Wesley Fofana, N’Golo Kante and Mason Mount all trained on Tuesday and are part of the trip to Spain.

Benoit Badiashile and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will play no part on Wednesday due to be ineligible having not been included in Chelsea’s knockout squad.
