Chelsea’s best and worst routes to Champions League final revealed as Bayern, Man City & Real Madrid await draw

Chelsea will find out their route to the Champions League final in Istanbul on Friday when the draw is made in Nyon, Switzerland.

After progressing into the knockout stages having finished top of Group E ahead of AC Milan, RB Salzburg and Dinamo Zagreb, Chelsea were handed a Round of 16 tie against Borussia Dortmund.

Despite losing 1-0 in Germany, Graham Potter’s side overturned the deficit and claimed a 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge earlier this month, thanks to goals from Raheem Sterling and Kai Havertz, to progress into the last eight.

Chelsea will be hoping to go one step better than they did last season under Thomas Tuchel, who won the Champions League in his first season. They were agonisingly knocked out in extra-time by Real Madrid after nearly turning the tie around at the Bernabeu.

Now Chelsea are at the quarter-final stage, no restrictions are in place. They will be able to face all of the teams in the draw, so a potential all-England affair against Manchester City is possible.

But Potter’s side will be hoping they can avoid Pep Guardiola’s side until the final, if they reach there, as well as Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

The semi-final and home/away final draw will also be made on Friday, giving clubs their routes to the showpiece in Turkey.
