Chelsea are planning their summer recruitment and the goalkeeper position has been identified as an area that the club will look to bolster, according to reports.

Graham Potter currently has Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy at his disposal, as well as veteran Marcus Bettinelli and youngster Gabriel Slonina who signed from Chicago Fire last summer.

Kepa’s long-term future remains unclear while Mendy is yet to agree a new contract despite holding talks with the club. His current deal expires in the summer of 2025.

They have had their spells as both Chelsea‘s number one and number two, but a revamp could be seen this summer if they opt to head in the market for a new goalkeeper.

As reported by Tom Roddy of The Times, Chelsea have explored potential goalkeepers and a three-man shortlist has been revealed.

  • David Raya (Brentford)
  • Illan Meslier (Leeds United)
  • Robert Sánchez (Brighton & Hove Albion)

Raya has been previously linked with Chelsea and only has one year left on his contract at Brentford. Should he leave, Thomas Frank’s side want £40 million for the Spaniard.

He said earlier this month: “I think we need to get into the Champions League and then he would consider it (staying).

“I love David as a keeper. I really believe he is one of the best in the Premier League. If someone wants to come and buy him, he is very expensive. He will be, for me, at least £40 million-plus. No doubt about that.

“No matter what happens, we will be able to at least contact a replacement. They don’t always want to come, but we do our best to persuade them. But of course, we are prepared for any scenario.”

Meslier and Sánchez are also potential alternatives for Chelsea, both with Premier League experience.

Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel is of interest to Chelsea and Manchester United but he wants to stay for at least another season.

Chelsea were handed a boost earlier this week when Mendy returned to full training for the first time since January after undergoing surgery on a fractured finger. He will now step up his recovery before Potter has him back available for selection.
