Edouard Mendy is unlikely to feature against Manchester City on Thursday as Graham Potter has delivered an injury update on the Chelsea goalkeeper.

It has been a difficult time as of late for the 30-year-old who was a Champions League winner and crowned Goalkeeper of the Season by UEFA less than year two years ago.

Despite such a bright start to life at Stamford Bridge, things have fallen rapidly downhill for the goalkeeper who has put in inconsistent performances and had injury problems this season.

Playing a total of 11 games this season, he has kept just one clean sheet for the Blues, and it came on the opening day of the Premier League campaign against Everton.

He was Thomas Tuchel’s number one, but Potter’s arrival has seen him put faith in Kepa Arrizabalaga and it seems to have payed off.

The Spaniard boasts an impressive 83.3 percent save percentage in the league, and despite picking up an injury before the World Cup that gave Mendy a few games to play, he will have looked to have returned to his status of first-choice.

Chelsea have a tough clash against Man City on Thursday, and Kepa is once again predicted to be starting over Mendy.

The Senegalese international is not out just because of performance though, he is still believed to be suffering with a knock.

In his pre-match press conference, Potter confirmed: “He’s been training a little bit more than he was. He’s not fully fit at the moment but hopefully the next week or so he will make progress.”

Mendy will be hoping he can back to full fitness and challenge for the number one spot as soon as possible, however with the form Kepa has shown, he may struggle to do that.

He may even end up heading for the exit door, it has previously been reported that the Blues offered him a six-year-contract but he opted to turn it down.

There has even been interest from other clubs as well, AC Milan are one of the clubs that are leading the way and OGC Nice and AS Monaco are monitoring the situation.

The west London side will not want to give up on Mendy easily, even with his recent shaky form he is a useful option for Chelsea to have at their disposal.
