Harry Kane makes ‘legacy’ defining Chelsea transfer decision amid Mauricio Pochettino appointment
Harry Kane has made his feelings on a potential transfer from Tottenham Hotspur to Chelsea abundantly clear.
The 29-year-old’s future at Spurs is becoming increasingly unclear as he enters the final year of his contract in north London.
Kane has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid and Manchester United, while new Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino is extremely fond of the forward having spent time at Spurs together.
If Spurs chairman Daniel Levy makes the decision to allow Kane to leave this summer, it will cost in excess of £100 million, with there also a reluctance to sell him to a fellow Premier League club.
Chelsea and Spurs’ history of entertaining each other over transfers has been a rarity as their rivalry continues to deepen, and Kane is ready to respect that with his latest transfer decision.
As reported by Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph, speaking on the Last Word on Spurs, Kane ‘wouldn’t ever go to Chelsea’ because he ‘really values his Spurs legacy’.
This is despite Pochettino now being at the helm at Stamford Bridge and Kane offering his approval of his Chelsea appointment.
“Mauricio was an amazing manager for me,” Kane said at a Reuters event in New York.
“Great person, great, great coach. He helped me a lot to get to where I am now. So I’m really appreciative of him.
“Everyone has their career, everyone has their future. So all I can say is I wish him all the best.
“I hope he does well – just obviously not as well as us!”
Pochettino will officially start at Chelsea on July 1 after penning a two-year contract, with a club option for a further year.
He is looking to add a new number nine to his squad ahead of the 2023/24 campaign. Unfortunately, and unsurprisingly, for him and Chelsea, that will not be Kane.
