Chelsea owners spotted in LA ahead of ‘crucial meeting’ to decide Mauricio Pochettino appointment
Chelsea’s owners have been pictured in Los Angeles ahead of their meeting over Mauricio Pochettino.
The Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital ownership are searching for their third permanent head coach since taking over in May 2022 and they are closing in on an appointment.
Former Spurs and PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino is now the frontrunner following multiple rounds of positive talks and he is expected to become Chelsea‘s next head coach.
An agreement was hoped to be reached before or just after the May bank holiday weekend, with Tom Roddy of The Times reporting that senior figures from the club were set to meet in Los Angeles on Saturday night over the potential arrival of the Argentine.
It was claimed a decision could be made to offer Pochettino the job as early as Saturday following further talks this week, with the hierarchy looking to rubber stamp their final decision via a unanimous vote in America.
The trip to America was confirmed on Friday night when co-owners Boehly and Behdad Eghbali travelled to the US, which saw them both spotted in attendance at the Los Angeles Lakers’ game against Memphis Grizzlies.
According to multiple reports, Frank Lampard is still expected to be in caretaker charge of Chelsea for their final six Premier League games before the 2022/23 campaign concludes.
But the arrival, if all goes according to plan, of Pochettino looks to be nearing and an offer could be on the table by the end of the this weekend, offering more clarity over the future of the club as they continue to plan ahead of next season.
