Joao Felix is closing in on a loan move to Chelsea after flying to London to undergo his medical ahead of a transfer until the end of the season, according to reports.

The 23-year-old has opted to make the switch to Chelsea this month after being attracted to the project which sees him snub Manchester United and Arsenal, both who showed interest, in the process.

Chelsea reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid to sign Felix on a six-month loan until June which will see them pay £9.7 million to bring him to the club temporarily.

The deal does not include an option to buy so Felix will return to Atletico once the loan deal concludes. Before departing the Spanish club, he will extend his contract until 2027 to aid Atletico in amortising his €126 million transfer in 2019 by a further year.

Felix was pictured in Spain leaving for England on Tuesday morning after being granted permission to fly to England to finalise his transfer.

Now Fabrizio Romano has offered an update on the deal as Chelsea look to wrap up Felix’s move as soon as possible.

It’s reported that the clubs are now exchanging and signing the necessary documents to take the deal one step closer.

Felix is now in London with his family and agents, and is undergoing medical tests before putting pen to paper on his contract which will see Chelsea cover his full salary.

Should Chelsea want to include Felix in their squad to face Fulham in the Premier League on Thursday night, they will need to register him by 12pm (UK) on Wednesday.
