Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Kendry Paez from Independiente del Valle, the club has announced.

The 16-year-old will join Chelsea in 2025 once he turns 18, currently 16, after the clubs agreed a fee.

In a club statement, Chelsea announced: “Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Kendry Paez from Independiente del Valle, the club has announced.

“The Ecuadorian, who will join Chelsea after his 18th birthday, has already built a reputation in South America as one of the brightest and most creative young talents around, thanks to his combination of skilful dribbling along with the vision and technique to open up defences with his passing.”

Chelsea beat Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund in the race to sign the highly-rated midfielder.

Paez‘s move to England was confirmed last month by Independiente del Valle director Santiago Morales, who said: “I can say that Kendry Paez, in two years’ time, will go to Chelsea.

“We received offers from Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United, Chelsea were the team that showed the most interest.”

It was reported last month by the Evening Standard that Chelsea could pay up to £17.5 million for Paez if all performance-related add-ons are met.
