Frank Lampard has issued a fitness update regarding Mason Mount and Chelsea have been handed a boost about N’Golo Kante for their clash with Real Madrid.

On Saturday, Lampard took charge of his first game as interim head coach of the Blues but it was not the result he would have hoped for against Wolves.

A stunning first half strike from Matheus Nunes separated the two sides at Molineux as Chelsea failed to win for the fourth time in a row in the Premier League.

It was a disappointing display from the west London side as they failed to create opportunities to pose a threat to the hosts and make a comeback.

Two players who were not involved in the game and perhaps could have made the difference were Mount and Kante.

Mount first broke through into the Chelsea team when Lampard begun his first stint at the club in 2019, but recently he has been linked to a move away from his boyhood club.

After the game, Lampard explained why the 24-year-old did not play, he said: “Mason had a feeling in his pelvic area. Injury that he’s been carrying the last two days. He trained in those two days but was struggling a little bit.”

The English head coach was also questioned about Kante’s fitness following his absence from the contest with Julen Lopetegui’s side.

In midweek the Frenchman started and played 60 minutes against Liverpool, but he was not included against Wolves, Lampard explained: “Kante is managing one. He’s fit but we know after his injury the idea of game, game, game…

“I can’t speak about the backroom, for some reason other than what you saw. You can write what you saw. N’Golo will be fine as it stands now. Managing him to be fit for the game. Not an issue.”

With a game to come against Real Madrid on Wednesday night in the Champions League Quarter-Finals, this serves as a bonus for the Blues.

As well as Kante, Lampard will be hoping Mount is available to play and can help Chelsea put in a good performance in what is a massive game for them.
