Chelsea have completed the signing of Lyon defender Malo Gusto, who becomes their seventh acquisition of the January transfer window.

The 19-year-old is one of the most promising young players in world football and earned himself admirers across the globe.

Manchester United and Barcelona were believed to be interested in the right-back, but it Chelsea have won the race for the defender.

Chelsea confirmed his arrival on Sunday morning ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

“I play right-back, I’m a fast player, crosser and box-to-box,” he told Chelsea TV.

“I like the city. I am really, really happy to come here.

“I choose Chelsea because it’s a very big club and I very like the project. Very happy to be here. See you soon.”

How much have Chelsea paid for Malo Gusto?

Lyon have confirmed Chelsea will pay a total of £30.7 million for Gusto, which includes £4.4 million in add-ons.

A club statement read: “Olympique Lyonnais announces the transfer of its international defender Malo Gusto to the English club Chelsea for a total amount of €35 million including €5 million in bonuses, spread over the duration of the player’s contract.”

How long is Malo Gusto’s contract at Chelsea?

The 19-year-old has penned a seven-and-a-half-year contract at Stamford Bridge, signing until the summer of 2030.

When will Malo Gusto join Chelsea?

Gusto will spend the remainder of the season on loan at Lyon, with their President previously stating that they were unwilling to let him leave in January without the defender returning to the Ligue 1 side on a temporary basis for the rest of the 2022/23 season.
