Chelsea face newly-crowned Premier League champions Manchester City this weekend.

Pep Guardiola’s men booked their spot in June’s Champions League final on Wednesday night after thrashing Real Madrid 4-0 to claim a 5-1 aggregate win, and were confirmed as Premier League champions ahead of Chelsea‘s trip to the Etihad.

Following Arsenal’s 1-0 to defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, City’s status as champions was confirmed as they retained the title and won their third consecutive league title.

Chelsea make the trip up north, the first of two in five days due to playing Manchester United next Thursday at Old Trafford, hoping to go three games following a win over AFC Bournemouth and then a 2-2 draw to Nottingham Forest last time out.

Lampard has three games left before he departs and hands over the reigns to Mauricio Pochettino, who will take over as the club’s new head coach ahead of the 2023/24 season, so will be wanting to end his caretaker stint on a high note as he travels to his former club.

Here is all the information for the league encounter:

Chelsea team news to face Manchester City

Reece James, Ben Chilwell and Mason Mount all returned to the grass this week for individual training as they continue to recover from their respective injuries. While Armando Broja continues his rehabilitation from his anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Marc Cucurella is still sidelined. Kalidou Koulibaly is back in training and ahead of schedule following his hamstring injury, but the game comes too soon for him, Lampard confirmed.

“Kouli has been training with us this week, but not really ready for a game like this,” said the Chelsea caretaker boss. “He’s ahead of schedule to be fair.”

But Chelsea suffered another blow for the Man City clash. Benoit Badiashile is unavailable due to a groin injury sustained in training.

“Benoit has injured himself in training two days ago (Wednesday), his groin, so will miss the game. We are assessing that as we speak.”
