Martinez, Rice, Mount, Mac Allister: Mauricio Pochettino’s six-man summer Chelsea transfer shortlist revealed
Mauricio Pochettino has agreed to become Chelsea’s next head coach and his summer wish-list has started to be revealed.
The 51-year-old has reached an agreement to take over at Stamford Bridge once this season concludes, and an announcement could be made next week by Chelsea once his contract is signed and the final formalities are completed.
It’s set to be a busy summer in west London as the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital eye, along with Pochettino, a squad overhaul following a disappointing 2022/23 campaign.
Now, as reported by Rob Draper of the Daily Mail, Pochettino’s desires in the summer window have now been revealed, with five transfer targets named and his stance on Mason Mount outlined.
Transfer targets
Chelsea want to strengthen in the goalkeeping, midfield and striking department this summer and the Argentine’s potential targets have been set.
Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez would be a goalkeeping option for Chelsea amid interest in Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana.
Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta warned Chelsea off of Onana, stating: “Goodbye for €40 million? I’m ruling it out: we don’t want to put him on the market and the boy is happy to wear our shirt.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea want to strengthen their midfield. Declan Rice is still wanted but they know they will face strong competition from Arsenal, as well as Manchester United, for the England international.
Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister is also of interest to Chelsea, who have gutted out the Seagulls in the last nine months.
In the forward department, Chelsea have already agreed to sign Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig. But Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez is the ‘most likely centre forward target’ for the Stamford Bridge club
Victor Osimhen is also of interest but they will face a tough battle if they, among other clubs, want to prise him away from Napoli this summer.
Mason Mount
Pochettino is reported to want to persuade Mason Mount to stay at the club. His future at Stamford Bridge is uncertain due to having only a year left on his contract this summer.
He is yet to agree to a contract extension. Interest is growing in the 24-year-old – Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United among the interested clubs., with Chelsea likely to sell this summer to cash in on the England international if they are unable to tie him down.
