Romelu Lukaku has reportedly made a decision over his future at Chelsea after joining Inter Milan for the 2022/23 season.

The 29-year-old left Chelsea on a season-long loan last summer having just spent one season back at Stamford Bridge following his club-record £97.5 million transfer in the summer of 2021 from Inter Milan.

Lukaku‘s time at Chelsea started off well with a goal against London rivals Arsenal, but it slowly declined seeing him score just eight Premier League goals.

A controversial interview with Sky Italia in December 2021 which criticised head coach Thomas Tuchel was the start of the end for the Belgium international in the English capital.

The club was taken over by the Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital ownership and a decision was reached to allow Lukaku to depart on loan for the whole season, with a view to a potential second at the San Siro.

Lukaku has struggled this season upon his return to Italy with injuries, scoring just four goals from 14 appearances in all competitions.

However, he did score the decisive, and only, goal on Wednesday night for Inter in their last 16 Champions League clash against FC Porto.

Lukaku worked with former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry in the Belgium set-up. The 45-year-old recently served as Roberto Martinez’s assistant.

He has now revealed Lukaku’s intentions ahead of this summer, handing Chelsea a headache over his future because the striker wants to remain in Italy.

“We had a discussion when he went to Chelsea, and I told him he’s going to find it difficult to play at Chelsea,” Henry said while on CBS Sports.

“That happened to be the case, because of the way Tuchel liked to play. Pressing, you’re the nine, I’m the nine, I’m the winger, you’re the winger, you have to change.

“Rom likes to stay where he is. Feed him, play him in early, and he’ll try to bully you.

“He was a different type of nine to what Tuchel wanted. Is he going to fit what Potter’s trying to do? They’re struggling enough. And what does he want to do? I don’t think he wants to go back. That’s the main thing. He wants to stay at Inter.”
