Angelo Gabriel has completed a season-long loan move to Ligue 1 side RC Strasbourg for the 2023/24 campaign.

The 18-year-old made the switch to Stamford Bridge this summer after arriving from Santos and spent pre-season with Mauricio Pochettino‘s side in the United States.

Angelo impressed the Chelsea head coach but the plan for the teenager was always for him to go out on loan to continue his development with regular first-team minutes.

He has moved to France to join RC Strasbourg, who were acquired by Chelsea’s owners, and he will now spend the season under Patrick Vieira.

Upon his arrival, Angelo said: “I’m very motivated by this challenge and my goal is to help the team get to the top!

“I am also happy to discover French football, which is one of the most famous in the world, with a style of play that I like and which suits me well. I can’t wait for it to start!”

Pochettino confirmed decisions over players’ futures, particularly the younger members of the squad, would be decided once they returned to England from the United States.

“When we finish the tour, we are going to sit, we are already working with the sporting directors, with Paul and Laurence, sharing ideas and we can see how we define the squad.

“They have the possibility, maybe they go on loan. At the moment, nothing is closed.”

He added: “We all understand that maybe during the last few weeks of the transfer window, things are going to happen.

“It is always better to have everything closed before. But not only for us, every other club too. It is important to close the squad in the way that we want.”

Chelsea begin their 2023/24 season on Sunday afternoon when they welcome Liverpool to Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.
