Chelsea made the decision to recall Cesare Casadei from his Leicester City loan spell this week.

The 21-year-old had only recently managed to find his way back into Enzo Maresca’s starting XI, with the Foxes top of the Championship and headed towards a return to the Premier League in 2024-25.

Casadei made 25 appearances in all competitions since moving to the King Power on a season-long loan in the summer, starting their last two league matches. He scored a total of three goals during his time at the club.

However, it was confirmed by Chelsea that Casadei had been recalled, ending his time with the Foxes, with reports suggesting the Italian would remain with Mauricio Pochettino’s squad for the season.

Chelsea currently have injury problems in midfield. Romeo Lavia (thigh) and Lesley Ugochukwu (hamstring) remain sidelined and when they will make their returns remains unknown.

Andrey Santos was recalled from Nottingham Forest, however he is currently away with Brazil’s Pre-Olympic and won’t return until next month, which will see his future be resolved.

Casadei’s return will see him train with the group on Saturday ahead of their Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Middlesbrough on Tuesday night, as revealed by Fabrizio Romano.

He has also revealed two reasons which have prompted the return of the midfielder and why he will remain with the group for the remainder of the season.

Chelsea are suggesting to believe ‘Casadei has huge potential’ and ‘can help the squad with immediate effect’.
