Chelsea have confirmed Thiago Silva will stay at the club next season after agreeing a contract extension.

The 38-year-old will spend a fourth consecutive season at Chelsea after arriving from PSG on a free transfer in 2020.

Silva, who turns 39 in September, has won the Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup during his time in west London, and will be searching for a Premier League triumph before he ends his time with the Blues.

Staying at Chelsea for the 2023/24 season looked likely and talks quickly advanced between the club and centre-back over a new one-year contract.

Now Chelsea have confirmed the Brazilian’s renewal, who has extended his current deal to the summer of 2024.

He told the official Chelsea website: “I am honestly so happy to continue my career with the Blues.

“When I signed my first contract here, it was to just do one year. Now it is already the fourth!

“I could not have imagined that, but really it is a very special moment for me to sign and stay at Chelsea.”

Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali expressed their pleasure at tying down the veteran, who has continued to get better and better as each season has passed during his time at the club.

They added: “We’re delighted that Thiago has decided to continue with Chelsea.

“He’s a world-class talent, as he’s proven over many years for club and country, and his experience, quality and leadership skills are vital to our vision going forward.

“We’re thrilled he has extended his contract with us and we look forward to more success with him ahead!”
