Chelsea vs Newcastle United: Preview, team news, how to watch, kick-off time & prediction
Chelsea host Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday night at Stamford Bridge.
Mauricio Pochettino‘s side are hoping to progress into the last four as they look to clinch silverware in the 51-year-old’s first season in charge in west London.
It’s been a difficult season so far for Chelsea and the Carabao Cup has offered some relief for the Blues in a mixed start in the Premier League, which currently sees them occupy 10th place.
Chelsea were thrashed 4-1 at St. James’ Park last month as misery compounded on Pochettino’s men following Reece James’ dismissal.
Chelsea will be without nine players, including Reece James and Marc Cucurella, for Tuesday night’s cup tie. Lewis Hall, who joined Newcastle United on an initial loan deal with a view to make the deal permanent, is eligible to play after Chelsea gave the versatile youngster permission to play.
“Of course, I want to win a trophy here in England,” insisted Pochettino during his pre-match press conference. “I want to lift a trophy now in this competition because it is important.
“My wish and my desire is to win and this is one of the competitions we are involved in and it is possible. We need to respect our opponents, Newcastle are going to be tough, we need to deserve to go through to the semi-final.”
Here are all of the details ahead of Chelsea versus Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.
