Confirmed Officials: Middlesbrough vs Chelsea | Carabao Cup
The officials have been confirmed for Chelsea’s Carabao Cup semi-final tie against Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium on Tuesday night.
Chelsea were handed the ‘easier’ of the two semi-final ties, with Liverpool and Fulham battling out for a spot in the Wembley final.
Mauricio Pochettino‘s side have home advantage in the second leg and the Chelsea head coach has stressed the importance of bringing back a positive result to Stamford Bridge to his players.
“Tomorrow is the most important game,” Pochettino told reporters on Monday when quizzed about reaching the final.
“Tomorrow we need a victory (to bring back to Stamford Bridge). We (also) need to respect the opponent.”
Now the officials for the Carabao Cup meeting have been revealed by the EFL ahead of the encounter.
Referee
The EFL have confirmed that Sam Barrott will take charge of the meeting on Teesside.
Assistants
Sam Barrott will be supported by Simon Bennett and Daniel Robathan on the touchline.
Fourth Official
Darren England has been named as the Fourth Official for Tuesday’s match, with the referee overseeing conduct within the two dugouts, and the behaviour of Michael Carrick and Mauricio Pochettino.
VAR/Assistant VAR
VAR will not be in use for any of the semi-final ties.
Explaining why, an EFL statement read: “Given the system is not installed at one of the participating semi-finalist Clubs and to maintain fairness and consistency, VAR technology will not be used in the Carabao Cup semi-final stage this season.”
