Conor Gallagher hailed teammate Cole Palmer following Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Sheffield United in the Premier League.

Palmer was on his toes to meet Raheem Sterling‘s cross in the 54th minute to put Chelsea ahead at Stamford Bridge.

The 21-year-old turned provider seven minutes later to set Nicolas Jackson up with a tap-in at the back post to secure all three points for the Blues as they got back to winning ways in the Premier League after back-to-back defeats on the road.

The victory moves Chelsea up into 10th place to keep their European hopes alive, offering the Blues confidence ahead of their Carabao Cup quarter-final clash against Newcastle United on Tuesday night.

Palmer has excelled since his summer switch from Manchester City and Gallagher has been the next to lavish praise on the England international.

“Cole is a great player and his talent is there for all to see,” Gallagher told the official Chelsea website. “He’s amazing on the ball and he’s done brilliant for us all season.

“He was involved with both goals, scoring a fantastic one himself and those goals and assists are what we need from him.

“We’re really happy with his input and he’s a great team-mate.”

Unlike Palmer, Gallagher is yet to find the net in the Premier League and the midfielder is one of his own harshest critics. He wants more, but Gallagher is putting the team first and knows his personal scoring aims will eventually come this season.

He added: “Of course, I want to score goals and that’s something I want to add to my game this season.

“It’s frustrating that I haven’t scored yet this season but as long as I’m helping the team to victories, then that’s all that matters.

“I’m sure the goals will come soon!”
