Arsenal have completed the signing of Kai Havertz from Chelsea on a long-term contract.

The 24-year-old makes the switch across the capital to join Mikel Arteta’s side on a five-year contract after Arsenal agreed a deal with Chelsea worth around £67.5 million, including add-ons, for the Germany international.

After arriving in 2020 from Bayer Leverkusen, Havertz made 139 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions, scoring 32 goals and registering 15 assists. His most important goals for the club came in the Champions League and Club World Cup finals, scoring the winner in both matches, marking himself in the club’s history forever.

With two years left on his contract, Chelsea handed Havertz an ultimatum – to sign or renew his deal – and the decision was made to sell, with Arsenal winning the race amid interest from Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

Havertz is one of many high-profile names to depart Chelsea this summer, including N’Golo Kante who has joined Saudi side Al-Ittihad and Mateo Kovacic to Man City, as the club oversees a squad overhaul under new head coach Mauricio Pochettino.

On his switch across the capital, Havertz said: “It’s super exciting for me personally. I’m so glad to join this amazing club. This club has such a big history and I hope we can achieve lots of things.

“I’m looking forward to meeting the players, the staff. It’s going to be exciting.”
