Pochettino sends Brighton, Liverpool & Man City transfer message over Levi Colwill’s future ahead of Chelsea pre-season return
Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed Chelsea’s plan for Levi Colwill this summer ahead of his pre-season return.
The 20-year-old will return to Chelsea later this month once he has concluded his international duties with England, who are currently preparing for a final that awaits on Saturday against Spain in the Under-21s European Championship.
Colwill impressed during his first season in the Premier League last term. He spent the campaign on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion, who now are hoping to try to sign the youngster this summer. Manchester City and Liverpool have also shown interest.
Chelsea are hoping to extend Colwill’s contract beyond 2025 with a pay increase, however the defender will wait to return to the Blues and speak to Pochettino before making a final decision over his future.
Chelsea head to the United States later this month for their pre-season tour where they will play five matches against Wrexham, Brighton & Hove Albion, Newcastle United, Fulham and Borussia Dortmund.
And Pochettino has confirmed the plans for Colwill, confirming he will return and join them on the flight across the Atlantic to America.
Speaking to reporters on Friday during his first Chelsea press conference since being appointed head coach, Pochettino said: “We spoke yesterday (Thursday) with Levi and Noni (Madueke).
“I know Noni from Tottenham in the Under-18s. I wish all the best for tomorrow (Saturday against Spain).
“We are waiting for them to be with the team. The day we fly to America they will join us.”
Colwill will be pushing for a starting role at Chelsea next season. Benoit Badiashile, currently recovering from a hamstring injury, is another option for Pochettino, while Thiago Silva and Inter Milan linked Trevoh Chalobah are the other defensive options for the Argentine.
