Robert Sanchez is progressing with his recovery after suffering an ankle injury last month.

The 26-year-old picked up a knock in the defeat of Manchester United, however was eventually forced off days later in the 2-0 loss away to Everton at Goodison Park, replaced by Djordje Petrovic in the final minutes.

In recent weeks, Sanchez underwent a scan to determine the best course of action over his rehabilitation.

To the relief of head coach Mauricio Pochettino, surgery was not required. Since then, Sanchez has been gradually making his way back onto the grass at Cobham.

His return is getting closer and closer. The winter break has allowed him time to focus on getting fully fit, with Chelsea‘s next game coming on Tuesday night against Middlesbrough, in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final tie.

After being handed a couple of days off, following their 1-0 win against Fulham, Chelsea’s players are gearing up for the chance to reach the Wembley final next month.

Sanchez was in Cobham on Saturday morning and shared a post on social media with a positive update.

It read: “Nearly there!!”

Pochettino told reporters earlier this month: “Yes, we are so happy because the evolution is very good.

“He was on the pitch running. In the next few days, he is going to do some running to see how his knee reacts. But it is a very good and positive evolution.”
