Chelsea make the short trip across the capital to face Arsenal looking to end their run of five defeats in a row.

It’s been a frustrating return for Frank Lampard as caretaker manager. He has overseen five games and all have ended in losses, leaving Chelsea in 12th place in the Premier League.

Both sides head into the London derby in far from ideal form. Chelsea are without a win since March 11, while Arsenal haven’t won in four and suffered a 4-1 defeat to title rivals Manchester City, who leapfrogged the Gunners on Sunday to the top of the table with a narrow 2-1 victory over Fulham to dent their title aspirations, last week.

Lampard was unable to decide whether facing Arsenal comes at a good time for Chelsea, who are also looking for an upturn in form.

“It could be either way,” responded the Chelsea caretaker manager on whether or not it’s a good time to face the Gunners due to their recent run of results. “Very much in the hunt still to win the Premier League. Fantastic team, who have had a great season. If they’re wounded they could have a big reaction, if we can make things difficult for them, it could feel different. Hard one to call.”

Chelsea team news to face Arsenal

Reece James and Mason Mount remain out, with both set to miss the rest of the season, along with Armando Broja.

Kalidou Koulibaly picked up a hamstring injury last month against Real Madrid in the Champions League. He could miss Chelsea’s final six games this season, Lampard confirmed: “Out for a while still. It’ll be a tight call for the season, to be fair. He’s working away. Been impressed as a professional, doing his job very well. Unfortunately the injury was a tough one.”

Marc Cucurella will miss the London derby due to a thigh injury and is expected to be sidelined for another two weeks. Kai Havertz is back in contention after a minor knee injury and could return to the starting XI in the capital.
