Chelsea make contact to express serious interest in 27-year-old to grant Mauricio Pochettino’s summer wish
Chelsea have made contact over the possible signing of Mike Maignan from AC Milan this summer.
Mauricio Pochettino is wanting to sign a goalkeeper as he looks for a new number one, with the futures of both Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga uncertain.
Maignan is contracted until June 2026 but following the dismissals of Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara earlier this week, it has led to some players expressing disappointment at the double decision.
Now, as reported by L’Equipe, Chelsea are attempting to take advantage of the situation in Milan and have contacted the Serie A side over the possibility of signing the 27-year-old.
However, for the moment, Milan have informed Chelsea that they do not intend to part ways with their goalkeeper, who was close to extending his contract by a further two years until 2028 prior Maldini and Massara’s exits.
Chelsea have players of interest to Milan. They have expressed interest in Christian Pulisic, while talks were ongoing over a transfer worth around £15 million for Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
This could help Chelsea strike a deal if they are able to convince Milan of parting ways with Maignan this summer, but it remains clear if their stance is unwavering or resolve can be tested with a substantial offer for the France international.
Fabrizio Romano adds that a deal for €45 million would be ‘absolutely impossible’, and even €50-55 million would be extremely unlikely.
Chelsea have also been linked with Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana, with talks likely to take place after the Champions League final, and Brentford’s David Raya who is also attracting interest from Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur
