Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign defender Axel Disasi from AS Monaco on a long-term contract.

Following the injury to Wesley Fofana, which saw the France international undergo anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery earlier this month, Chelsea have moved in the transfer market to sign Disasi as cover.

As reported by David Ornstein of The Athletic, Chelsea have reached an agreement in principle with AS Monaco for the signing of Disasi, with a deal worth around £38 million.

Fabrice Hawkins of RMC Sport adds Disasi has agreed a five-year contract to make the switch to Stamford Bridge, with the option of a further 12 months.

Disasi’s imminent move looks likely to spell the end of Trevoh Chalobah’s time at Chelsea. He has been linked with a move to Inter Milan.

Mauricio Pochettino has been public in his wishes to bring more players to the club and he is now set to have Disasi among his centre-back options of Benoit Badiashile, Thiago Silva and Levi Colwill, along with the injured Fofana.

The 25-year-old’s transfer will be the second from Monaco in the space of six months following the arrival of Benoit Badiashile during the January transfer window.
