Chelsea ensured they were in the hat for the FA Cup fourth round draw after a 4-0 win over Preston North End.

After struggling in the first-half, three goals in 11 minutes from Armando Broja, Thiago Silva and Raheem Sterling put Chelsea three goals ahead, before a late Enzo Fernandez tap-in added a fourth to confirm their progression.

“Yes a very good win,” head coach Mauricio Pochettino told BBC Sport. “The first half I was a little disappointed. We started so sloppy. I told the players at half-time we needed to increase the energy and match that of Preston.

“The second half was a completely different game. We dominated, created chances and deserved victory.

We showed a lack of desire in the first half and we were talking too much about their energy.”

Current FA Cup holders Manchester City went one better on Sunday afternoon with a 5-0 win over Huddersfield Town at the Etihad Stadium, which saw Chelsea loanee Alex Matos make his first appearance for the Terriers since joining on loan for the remainder of the season.

Arsenal’s wait to replicate their 2020 FA Cup triumph, which came over Chelsea, continued after their lack of ruthlessness in the attacking third was punished by Liverpool, who were without Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, as Jurgen Klopp’s side sealed a 2-0 victory in the capital.
