Manchester City have reached an agreement to sign Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea this summer.

After reaching an agreement with Kovacic over personal terms, Man City are now on the verge of completing the signing of the 29-year-old.

Kovacic, who initially joined Chelsea in 2018 from Real Madrid on loan before his move was made permanent a year later, will depart Stamford Bridge after five seasons and make the switch to the Premier League and European champions.

With one year left on his contract, Man City have now had a bid of £30 million accepted for Kovacic, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

Kovacic will undergo his Man City medical in the coming days before his transfer is made official.

Man City will pay Chelsea a guaranteed fee of £25 million, with £5 million in add-ons based on Pep Guardiola’s side winning silverware, rather than Kovacic’s performances.

Kovacic will leave Chelsea having won the Champions League, Europa League, Super Cup and Club World Cup during his five-year spell, making 221 appearances for the Blues.

He is set to become the second high-profile midfield departure this summer after N’Golo Kante’s switch to Saudi side Al-Ittihad.

Chelsea are eyeing Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo, who is valued at around £100 million, and a bid is likely to be made soon given the number of departures at the club right now.
