Marcus Bettinelli has signed a new three-year contract at Chelsea to extend his stay at the club until the summer of 2026.

Following his transfer from Fulham in the summer of 2021 after Chelsea’s Champions League triumph, Bettinelli has been the club’s third choice behind Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy.

He has only made one competitive appearance since signing for Chelsea, which came against Chesterfield in the FA Cup last season – a tie that the Blues won convincingly 5-1 at Stamford Bridge.

Bettinelli‘s contract was set to expire this summer but Chelsea have opted to offer him a lengthy renewal and the goalkeeper has agreed to a fresh three-year deal.

After penning his new deal, Bettinelli told in-house media: “It is a privilege to be at a club like Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world, and a couple of years ago when I signed I was delighted to be here, delighted to sign.

“To be here now and see the club going through this transition and seeing what we are developing, it is amazing to be a part of and I am buzzing to be here for an extra couple of years.”

Bettinelli has had to remain extremely patient in his understudy role, which he fully accepts and acknowledges.

When he was out in Abu Dhabi in December during the mid-season break after the Blues faced Aston Villa, Bettinelli was always hoping to show his personality and qualities to Potter.

“For the last two seasons, minutes have been few and far between for me. I am looking forward to the match today,” he said prior to the friendly. “It is only a friendly, but it is still Aston Villa, and a fresh chance to show the manager what you can do personally.

‘We’re really looking forward to it. It should be a good day, so let’s finish the week with a positive result.”

Now Bettinelli will continue to work under Potter and with the rest of his teammates in the coming seasons, and hoping to win more silverware to build on his Club World Cup winners’ medal.
