Mauricio Pochettino has made his Chelsea ambitions clear and insists his target is to deliver success from day one.

The 51-year-old has almost been in the Chelsea head coach job for a week now and Pochettino has begun to work with some of his players at the Cobham training ground.

It was a difficult season for the Blues last term as they finished in 12th place in the Premier League and without silverware. It has seen an overhaul in the squad this summer and more changes are expected to come ahead of their pre-season tour of America and the league opener against Liverpool on August 13.

Pochettino has delivered the key message to the club and its fan, outlining his clear ambitions of winning from day one, acknowledging that at a club like Chelsea there is no patience.

“In football, no patience. It’s difficult to wait. In Chelsea it’s not about time, you have to deliver from day one. That’s how we are working on the training ground. Not wasting time now. Football is about today, not talk too much about long term.”

He added: “My target is to win. If you are in a club like Chelsea, you can’t do a nice show and play well. Of course, good show and play well. But, of course, to win. If you don’t win in a club like Chelsea, you will struggle.”

Pochettino is proud to have returned to the Premier League, which comes almost four years after he departed Tottenham Hotspur in November 2019.

The Chelsea head coach concluded: “I am so proud to be here. It’s a great opportunity for me to be back in the Premier League, the best in the world. Chelsea convinced me to be here. A great team.

“By far, I’m a much better (manager now). For sure, I am a much better coach and person after my experience outside of the Premier League.”
