Chelsea duo pen heartfelt farewells to say goodbye to Man United’s new £60m signing Mason Mount
Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi have penned their goodbyes to Mason Mount after he completed his transfer to Manchester United.
The 24-year-old joins Man United on a five-year contract, with the option of a further year, after a deal worth £60 million – £55 million plus £5 million in add-ons – was agreed with Chelsea.
Mount leaves Chelsea for Old Trafford after 18 years in west London, joining at the age of six, and making 195 first-team appearances, winning the Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup in the process.
“It’s never easy leaving the club where you grew up, but Manchester United will provide an exciting new challenge for the next phase of my career,” Mount, who will take the iconic number seven shirt, said upon putting pen to paper.
“Having competed against them, I know just how strong a squad it is that I’m joining, and I can’t wait to be part of this group’s drive to win major trophies.”
Chelsea and Mount decided to part ways after a contract extension was unable to be agreed, with the midfielder out of contract in June 2024.
As reported by The Athletic, a long-term deal was agreed in November prior to the World Cup but it was pulled in January and only a one-year deal was formally offered in February, which was the last offer that was put on the table.
Mount’s now former teammates have been reacted to his departure and both James and Hudson-Odoi wrote personalised farewells for him.
What Reece James said
Taking to Instagram, James wrote: “Ma brother man. Where do I start. I’ve know you since 6 years old, we grew together and took similar paths in breaking into the first team. Something that seemed virtually impossible. I’m proud to say I done it along side you.
“I’ve seen you as a little boy and watched you grow into the man and player you are today, you’ve done yourself and your family proud. We’ve had some of the best days of our career together that’ll stick with me forever.
“It’s sad to say goodbye. I wish you nothing but happiness, good health and the best of luck on your new adventure! You’ll always be blue at heart!”
Mount replied to James, writing: “My brother from day 1, so many memories shared together! So proud of you, thank you RJ.”
What Callum Hudson-Odoi
Hudson-Odoi is expected to follow Mount out of Chelsea this summer after expressing his desire to leave the club.
He took to Instagram to bid farewell to Mount, writing: “My brother Mase, From winning youth cups to playing on the big stage together! I wish nothing but the best for you future!”
