Chelsea are in the market for a striker this month and the club’s hierarchy are ready to splash more cash in a bid to rectify some of Mauricio Pochettino’s problems.

With Nicolas Jackson at the African Cup of Nations, Chelsea‘s only recognised fit centre-forward is Armando Broja, with Christopher Nkunku recovering from a recent hip injury.

Killer instinct has been Chelsea’s achilles heel this season. They have missed 40 big chances this season in the Premier League, the second highest of the 20 teams.

On Tuesday night, Mauricio Pochettino oversaw a 1-0 defeat to Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup semi-finals, leaving Chelsea with a job to do at Stamford Bridge in the second leg later this month.

“We created chances enough to score and draw in the end,” reflected Pochettino on Tuesday night.

“If we assess the game after 90 minutes I think we were the better side but if you don’t score goals you cannot win.”

Pochettino is not under pressure in the eyes of the Chelsea hierarchy, who are continuing to back the 51-year-old whilst European qualification for 2024-25 remains alive.

With Ian Maatsen on the verge of departing for Borussia Dortmund on loan, Chelsea’s transfer plans are well underway this month.

A new report from Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail has confirmed co-controlling owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali are willing to invest during the January transfer window in the hope of rescuing the season, with a new striker and left-back wanted.

Victor Osimhen is of strong interest to Chelsea and is available this summer due to his £103 million release clause.

Osimhen, who has scored eight goals from 18 appearances, is currently at AFCON with Nigeria.

However, Chelsea have received a boost in any potential pursuit of Osimhen, with Sami Mokbel revealing ‘sources close to Osimhen have indicated that the Nigeria striker is open’ to move to Stamford Bridge.
