The Chelsea squad have started to report back to their Cobham training base for pre-season.

Mauricio Pochettino, who arrived to begin work as head coach on Monday, oversaw training for the first time on Tuesday, which saw him meet some of his new team for the first time.

Chelsea will return in their dribs and drabs, with those who have been involved on international duty given extended time off.

11 players were pictured, with many others likely to have been in attendance, on the grass at Cobham on Tuesday, with Pochettino and assistant Jesus Perez watching on from the sidelines.

Ben Chilwell, Reece James, Ian Maatsen, Marc Cucurella, Bashir Humphreys, Thiago Silva, Trevoh Chalobah, Carney Chukwuemeka, Cesare Casadei, Andrey Santos and Raheem Sterling were all spotted at Cobham, as pictured by Chelsea’s in-house media.

Lewis Hall and Armando Broja, who has returned from an anterior cruciate ligament injury, were also involved.

Chelsea confirmed: “Our international players have a few extra days holiday before they return to Cobham and meet Mauricio Pochettino and his coaching staff.”

Pochettino has already set out his demands to his new squad. He wants the Chelsea team to be full of leaders, who want to be at the club, to give everything for the badge.

He said: “It is exciting for us because we love good players, players with the capacity and then talent, but also we want people who want to be with us at this club and be really open to help the club achieve what we want.

“We need leaders, not followers, in every single area and we will push every person to bring their best and give their best for the club.”
