Chelsea face Newcastle United as Frank Lampard’s caretaker spell comes to an end at Stamford Bridge.

For one final time, Chelsea are back in Premier League action as they host Newcastle which will spell the end of their season and Lampard’s caretaker spell in west London.

The highest Chelsea, who are currently in 12th, can finish is 11th and the lowest the Blues can end the season is in 14th if results don’t go their way.

It has been a season to forget for Lampard’s side who have had four managers (permanent and interim) oversee the squad this term, highlighting the chaos and turmoil during the campaign and Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital’s first year at the club.

Lampard, this time as caretaker, is hoping to end his second spell at Chelsea with a positive result after eight defeats from 10 matches, as he bids farewell to Stamford Bridge.

“I didn’t get the chance to do a proper goodbye at the end of my previous time here because it happened during the period behind closed doors due to Covid,” the 44-year-old told the programme. “I know the supporters will have long memories, particularly the Stamford Bridge crowd, the match-going fan.

“The link we had over my 13 years as a player here was special, and although I left without getting the chance to say goodbye that time around, I think I probably addressed that by coming back as manager. My feeling for this club and the supporters has never and will never change.”
