Kalidou Koulibaly leaves Chelsea after one season to join Saudi side Al-Hilal
Kalidou Koulibaly’s time at Chelsea is over after just one season following confirmation of his transfer to Al-Hilal.
Chelsea have cut their losses after just one year in England for the Senegal defender, who has made the switch to Saudi Arabia.
The 32-year-old was one of the first signings of the Todd Boehly–Clearlake Capital era, spending in excess of £30 million to prize the centre-back away from Napoli to Stamford Bridge.
But 32 appearances later and a 12th placed Premier League finish, the opportunity for Koulibaly to leave for Al-Hilal has been too good to turn down, seeing him sign in a deal worth around £17 million on a three-year contract.
Following his departure, Koulibaly wrote: “From my first game to my last, it was an honour to wear this badge.
“Last season wasn’t the one we wanted, but I want to thank the fans and everyone at the club for your support.”
